Flathead River Trips


Full Day Trips: Our full day float trips are designed to maximize your river experience, and consist of 7-8 hour float trips with one of our professional fishing guides. From the novice angler to the most seasoned fly fisherman this trip will improve your angling skills. Our guides are great at getting fish in the boat, but more importantly they are river ambassadors and will increase your knowledge and understanding of the Flathead River’s magnificent ecosystem . Our guides will provide you with everything you need for the day, including rods, flies, tackle, a great lunch, and non-alcoholic beverages. We encourage you to bring proper outerwear like a rain jacket, warm layers, and sunglasses. Not provided in the trip are a Montana fishing license and guide gratuity.

Full Day Walk and Wade: Whether you prefer the river rocks under your feet or just want to better improve your walk and wading skills, our full day walk and wade trips will not disappoint. Our guides will transport you from the fly shop to the best walk and wade access sites on the river. If you are a new angler, our professional guides will teach you all the essentials you need to know to be able to wade-fish a western river. For the experienced angler, our guides will get you into prime water and offer their knowledge and experience to make sure you have a great day on the river. This is a great opportunity to sit back and really enjoy your surroundings and soak in the beauty of the Flathead Valley. These trips are dependent on river levels. They will only be offered once the river volume has receded enough to offer a safe and comfortable walk and wade experience. As with all full-day trips, your guide will provide a lunch, refreshments, transportation, and all the essential gear needed to have an unforgettable outing on the river. We encourage you to bring proper outerwear like a rain jacket, layers, and sunglasses. Not included are a Montana fishing license and guide gratuity.

Full Day Fish School: Designed to teach the beginning or novice angler everything needed to know to successfully fly fish on western rivers. We break this trip down into 2 sections. The first half of the day involves a riverside instructional class where the complexities involved in fly fishing are discussed and demonstrated in detail. Topics that are covered include: rod and reel, knot tying, fly selection, reading water, and proper fish handling. The second half of the day will consist of a 3 to 4-hour float trip in which anglers will refine the topics covered in section 1. Just like other full day trips, lunches, non- alcoholic beverages, and all fishing gear will be provided. A fun and exciting learning experience, this trip will provide you with all of the knowledge needed to be able to feel confident the next time you step foot on a trout stream. We encourage you to bring proper outerwear like a rain jacket, warm layers, and sunglasses. Not included are a Montana fishing license and guide gratuity.

Half Day Float or Walk and Wade: Short on time or just want to get a feel for what is working on the river at that time of year this 4-hour trip is a quick, fun Montana experience. Our professional fishing guides will transport you from the fly shop and will have you on the water and fishing for Montana’s native Cutthroat trout in a short amount of time. They will do everything they can to get you hooked up with trout and back to the fly shop so you can fill your day with more amazing Montana experiences. Our guides will provide you with non-alcoholic beverages and all fishing gear. Not included in the trip are a Montana fishing license and guide gratuity.

Price: $ 375 for Float Trip and $325 for Walk and Wade

Casting Instruction (1 Hour) We are proud to offer Orvis Fly Fishing Casting Instruction. This 1-hour class has been developed by renowned Orvis Instructors and is a great way to learn how to cast a fly rod properly. Great for a group setting or one on one, this is the perfect primer to get you comfortable with holding and casting a fly rod. Larger groups are welcome, but we limit three people per instructor. No equipment or fishing licenses are necessary for this class.

Price: $100 for one hour. Up to three people per Instructor
Meet Times: Casting Instruction can be scheduled daily between 10 AM and 5 PM. Meet at Lary’s Fly and Supply.
Licenses: No licenses necessary.
