Flathead River Fishing Report 4-05-18

We had a cruel April Fools Day joke played on us here in the Flathead Valley this week. Last week we had some spring like weather come to the valley with temperature reaching in to the mid 40’s and the occasional sunny day. We started to have some low elevation snow recede and that brought a little color to the North and Middle Forks of the Flathead River making river conditions near perfect in my opinion. Mother Nature then played her cruel joke on us and smashed us with cold temperatures and snow storms that have stayed on us for a couple of days here in the Flathead Valley. Such is life in the Rocky Mountains in April. I have still been getting out on a semi regular basis to fish and have been pleasantly surprised with the results. Fish are still hanging out in those inside bends in that magical 4-6 feet of water, as well as in lower stretches of soft water in good runs. I am sure that fish are holding else where but that is the water that I have been fishing lately. Worms of all colors as well as rubber legged stoneflies, lightning bugs and mop flies have all found their way into the mouths of Cutthroat and Whitefish. The weather looks like it is going to improve here in the near future and we might be back into spring before we know it. We are still offering discounted spring guided trips at the shop so feel free to email or stop by Lary’s Fly and Supply to book your guide. Also, Hilary has published the website for the fly shop (www.larysflyandsupply.com) which has some great information on what we do and offers a place to book guided trips online with a real-time interactive calender that you can even pick which guide you want to fish with! If nothing else, give us a call and we can at least talk fishing and complain about the weather. Take care. Mark
